Saturday Spotlight: Romantasy #3- We Hunt the Flame

This month’s Saturday Spotlight theme is romantasy, and this week I am talking about “We Hunt the Flame” by Hafsah Faizal. This book has Middle Eastern representation, magic, romance, and found family!

This month’s Saturday Spotlight theme is romantasy! So far, I have talked about The Sun and the Starmaker by Rachel Griffin and Caraval by Stephanie Garber. You can find those posts here and here.

This week I am talking about We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal!

I read this book for the first time many years ago, and I have to admit I didn’t like it very much. It is a big story with a lot going on, and I was a little lost. I reread it last year, and I adored this book! I was able to follow the story much easier, and I loved everything about it! This is a book that I recommend reading at least twice. The world was incredible and inspired by Middle Eastern culture. It was unique and different from what I normally read. The magic was very interesting as well, and very in-depth. The author weaves the magic and history of this world together in a beautiful and interesting way. The characters are also amazing! I love all of them, and the found family aspect of the book was a lovely addition. The romance is not fully realized in this book, but the beginnings of a love story are there. Nasir and Zafira are wonderful characters on their own, as well as together. They are definitely enemies to lovers! We Hunt the Flame is a wonderful romantasy story with magic and a unique setting!

People lived because she killed. People died because he lived. Zafira is the Hunter, disguising herself as a man when she braves the cursed forest of the Arz to feed her people. Nasir is the Prince of Death, assassinating those foolish enough to defy his autocratic father, the sultan. If Zafira was exposed as a girl, all of her achievements would be rejected; if Nasir displayed his compassion, his father would punish him in the most brutal of ways. Both Zafira and Nasir are legends in the kingdom of Arawiya―but neither wants to be.
War is brewing, and the Arz sweeps closer with each passing day, engulfing the land in shadow. When Zafira embarks on a quest to uncover a lost artifact that can restore magic to her suffering world and stop the Arz, Nasir is sent by the sultan on a similar mission: retrieve the artifact and kill the Hunter. But an ancient evil stirs as their journey unfolds―and the prize they seek may pose a threat greater than either can imagine.
