Review:

No one ever said life was easy. But Ponyboy is pretty sure that he’s got things figured out. He knows that he can count on his brothers, Darry and Sodapop. And he knows that he can count on his friends – true friends who would do anything for him, like Johnny and Two-Bit. And when it comes to the beating up on “greasers” like him and his friends – he knows that he can count on them for trouble. But one night someone takes things too far, and Ponyboy’s world is turned upside down… – summary from Goodreads

The Outsiders is a classic novel with found family, coming of age, and action!

I first read The Outsiders in eighth grade, and I have read it a few times since then, and I absolutely love this book. This is one of those books that I think everyone should read at least once in their life, and I also recommend it to people if they say they aren’t a reader (especially if they are a teenager).

There are some dark moments in this book, and the author doesn’t shy away from anything. However, nothing is very graphically described. This book follows a gang, so there are some violent moments throughout the book.

This book may follow a gang, but it really tells the story of the boys in the gang in such a beautiful way. You sympathize and empathize with these characters, and the author does an incredible job of sharing this story.

All of the characters are amazing, and you can relate to all of them in some way. This story is pretty short, you can read it in a day or two, and I love that we got to know and understand all the characters in some way.

I’m trying not to spoil anything, so the review is a little vague. This is one of those books that changes the way you think and really influences you.

The Outsiders is a wonderful, poignant coming of age story with realistic characters, that I believe everyone should read!
