Saturday Spotlight: Sci-Fi #2- Unwind

This month’s Saturday Spotlight theme is Sci-Fi and this week I am sharing “Unwind” by Neal Shusterman. This book is thought-provoking and explores a fascinating and complex concept in a really unique, engaging way!

This month’s Saturday Spotlight theme is Sci-Fi. So far, I have shared The Aurora Cycle by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. You can find that post here.

This week I am sharing Unwind by Neal Shusterman. This is an absolutely amazing book/series that merges abortion with organ donation. In this series, between the ages of the 13 and 18 a parent or guardian can decide that they don’t want their kid. Then the kid is given away to a facility where every single part of the body is used and given to other people. It’s a really fascinating concept. It really makes you think about your body. The characters are also fascinating, and I loved all the relationships in the book. I highly recommend this book if you are looking for a thought-provoking read!

Connor, Risa, and Lev are running for their lives.

The Second Civil War was fought over reproductive rights. The chilling resolution: Life is inviolable from the moment of conception until age thirteen. Between the ages of thirteen and eighteen, however, parents can have their child “unwound,” whereby all of the child’s organs are transplanted into different donors, so life doesn’t technically end. Connor is too difficult for his parents to control. Risa, a ward of the state, is not enough to be kept alive. And Lev is a tithe, a child conceived and raised to be unwound. Together, they may have a chance to escape and to survive.
