Saturdays Spotlight: Poems #1- Today

This month’s Saturday Spotlight theme is poems. The poem featured this week is “Today” by Mary Oliver.

It’s time for a new Saturday Spotlight theme! This month’s theme is going to be poems! Every week I will be sharing one of my favorite poems.

This week’s poem is Today by Mary Oliver. I love all of Mary Oliver’s poems that I have read, but Today is one of my favorites!

Today I’m flying low and I’m

not saying a word

I’m letting all the voodoos of ambition sleep.

The world goes on as it must,

the bees in the garden rumbling a little,

the fish leaping, the gnats getting eaten.

And so forth.

But I’m taking the day off.

Quiet as a feather.

I hardly move though really I’m traveling

a terrific distance.

Stillness. One of the doors

into the temple.
