It’s another Top Ten Tuesday! Top Ten Tuesday is run by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is Animal Companions, either real or fantasy, which was submitted by PS I Love Books.
I love animals and I love when there are animals in a story, especially when they play a big role in the story! So, I am very excited for this week’s theme!
Here’s my Top Ten:
Shadow from Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries
I loved this sweet, protective dog! Heather Fawcett wrote his aging and how that affects the owner in a really nice way.

Spit Fyre from Flyte
Spit Fyre is a rambunctious little dragon, and I just really loved him. I think he really added to the series as a whole, and it was a lot of fun reading about him.

Murgatroyd, Fiddlesticks, Miss Eliza Tudor, Scorn, Jasmine, Trouble, Jasper Darlington Higgins IV, Chaos, and Aunt Ophelia from Calling on Dragons
First of all, I just love the names. Second, all of these cats were given such personalities and voices, and even a dog lover such as myself, adored them!

Ollie from Legend
Ollie wasn’t in the books too much, but I did love that he was in the story. It was also pointed out to me that it was one of the few YA books where the main character actually kept track of their dog.

Hound from The Penderwicks
I love The Penderwicks and it is a perfect summer read, and part of what makes the story so good was the dog. He is a sweet dog, who likes to get into trouble and loves his owner more than anything.

Jip and Jess from A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World
I read A Boy and His Dog at the End of the World years ago and I really loved the portrayal of a person with their dogs. I will have to reread it, but this was a heartwarming, yet sad story that’s guiding force is dogs.

Iggy from Keeper of the Lost Cities
Iggy is an imp from the Keeper of the Lost Cities books, that the main character keeps as a pet. Again, Iggy isn’t in the books too much, but he is fun and every book he is dyed a different color!

Chainsaw from The Raven Boys
I love Chainsaw! She is the group pet of the main group of characters and the gruffest character’s baby. She adds a depth to the story that I really enjoy, and you get a little attached to her, even though she is a raven.

Rueben, Archer, and Frosty from Three Wild Dogs (and the truth)
I just read this book, and I loved it. It is the only nonfiction book I have on my list. This book really moved me and is definitely one of the best books I have read this year. If you have dogs or have ever loved dogs, then this is the book for you!

Ivan from The One and Only Ivan
Okay, so Ivan isn’t actually a pet- he lives in a mall zoo. But he is a gentle giant and is a companion to both other animals and humans. I have loved this character and book since I was elementary school.

Thistle from A Thousand Heartbeats
I am finishing up this book and I love the addition of Thistle. There are not too many books where there is a pet fox!

What books do you love that have animal companions?
