Top Ten Tuesday: Books You Would be a Fool Not to Read

This week’s Top Ten Tuesday is in honor of April Fools, and shares some of the books you would be a fool not to read! Included are childhood favorites and novels based on real experiences.

It’s another Top Ten Tuesday! Top Ten Tuesday is run by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is Books You Would be a Fool Not to Read in honor of April Fool’s Day.

Many of the books included on my list are my favorites, or the ones that taught me something new.

Here’s my Top Ten:

The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater

This is one of my go-to recommendations for people. I feel like there is a little bit of everything in this series. The best part is the friend/found family aspect. It is so amazing and they take you on an adventure!

The Dreamer Trilogy by Maggie Stiefvater

This trilogy is the sequel series to the Raven Cycle, so many of the same characters are present. This series gives a more detailed look into the Lynch family, which I loved. I also read this book for the first time at the perfect time. It was what I needed to hear at the time.

The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer

This is the series that really got me into reading. I loved it when I was a kid and have gone back to it a number of times. This is definitely one of my comfort reads!

The Unwanteds by Lisa McMann

I have loved this series since I was in middle school. I came across it on accident and devoured it quickly. It is one of my favorite book series, and one of the few that has kept me up at night.

Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman

One of my librarians recommended this book because I have enjoyed Neal Shusterman’s books in the past. This book is so good and explores mental illness in a really interesting way. And it is based on the experiences of Neal’s son when he was in a mental hospital.

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

This is one of the few books that has made me cry multiple times. I try to avoid horror, and I just recently learned that this book has been classified as horror. I don’t think this book is a horror book at all. It explores human emotions and challenges in an interesting and emotional way.

The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton

The Outsiders was a required book in 8th grade. Most everybody loved it and I think most people should read it. It isn’t the happiest of stories, but one I am glad to have read.

The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate

This book is based on a true story and is beautifully written. I have read this a number of times and still love it. I even read it to my sister, and now she has her own copy and has read it multiple times in the past year.

We Are Not from Here by Jenny Tores Sanchez

There has been a lot of politics surrounding immigration in the US recently, and while I am not sharing my own thoughts and feelings, I think this was such a unique book. It tells the story of three teenagers as they make the journey to cross the US border. It is super emotional, eye-opening, and moving.

Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys

I love just about everything Ruta Sepetys writes, but Fountains of Silence is definitely my favorite. I think it had more romance than her other books, and it was more about the after-effects of war and a horrible leader, than in the throes. It was also super eye-opening to events that are very seldom talked about.

These are the ten books/series that I think everyone should read, or at the very least, I am glad I read them!

What books do you think I absolutely need to read?
