Top Ten Tuesday: Books to Read During a Storm

Here are some of the books I like to curl up with on a dark night!

Top Ten Tuesday is run by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is Books to Read During a Storm, which could be cozy reads, atmospheric reads, light reads, or books with storms in them.

One of my library’s book club themes last year was cozy books and one of the displays I recently put up were winter books. So this list is a mix of books I have read and some I am interested in.

Here’s my Top Ten:

Talk Santa to Me by Linda Urban

I asked my library to purchase this book, and I immediately checked it out when it came in. Admittedly, I did not like it. It was cute but disjointed and felt like a bad Hallmark movie.

Book of a Thousand Days by Shannon Hale

I have loved this book for years. It is told in a journalistic style and takes place in Mongolia. It is also a fairytale retelling, though I am not sure which one.

Love and Other Train Wrecks by Leah Konen

This was another book that I wanted to like more than I did. If you enjoy quick reads about teens traveling during a snowstorm, then this book is for you. It reminded me, very minorly, of the movie Love at First Sight. It was a good book, but it wasn’t my favorite.

You, Me, and Our Heartstrings by Melissa See

This book was okay. I probably would have liked it more if it explored more the family dynamics of Noah’s family. I didn’t love the main character, and how disability and anxiety was discussed. While this book was written with the intent of discussing disability, I think it could have gone deeper.

Decked With Holly by Marni Bates

I haven’t read this one yet, but it is next up on my list. I am very excited for this book, as it reminds me of the movie Starstruck, which I enjoyed.

The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand

This is the book I am most excited about for my Holiday TBR. I enjoy ghost stories where the ghost isn’t scary, so this one appeals to me. I also enjoy the Christmas Carol remixed movies, like Scrooge and Spirited, so I am very excited!

The Girl Who Speaks Bear by Sophie Anderson

This is another book I am excited to read. I don’t think I’m going to get to it this year, but hopefully in the new year. This book sounds different from what I usually read, and it sounds super intriguing.

Conceal, Don’t Feel by Jen Calonita

This is part of the Twisted Tale series that changes iconic Disney movies based on a What if? The what if for this book is what if Anna and Elsa never knew each other? It’s a quick, cute wintery book, with some of the most popular Disney characters.

The Holiday Switch by Tif Marcelo

I just started this book yesterday and since this is Final’s week it’s slow going. However, it’s been a nice escape from the stress of all my final projects. As an added bonus the main character is a book blogger! While I am not too far into it, I’m enjoying it so far.

Bravely by Maggie Stiefvater

I read this book soon after it was released. I only have a vague memory of the book, but I did enjoy it. The ending was a little open-ended if I recall correctly, which isn’t my favorite. This book starts on Christmas Eve and takes Merida throughout the whole year, ending the book on the following Christmas Eve. I love a good Brave retelling, and I am excited to reread it this holiday season!
