To continue the Saturday Spotlight series I started last week, the cozy book/series I choose for this week is the Princess Academy by Shannon Hale.
As a reminder, the cozy book I choose last week was Heist Society by Ally Carter. You can find that post here: Cozy Book #1: Heist Society.
The Princess Academy by Shannon Hale is a middle grade series with three books: The Princess Academy, Palace of Stone, and The Forgotten Sisters.
All of these books are amazing, and the world-building is spectacular. I once had to do a project where I created my own country and one of the monuments was named after a place in this series.
This series follows Miri, a girl who lives on an impoverished mountain, where they quarry for a special stone. Similar to the Selection, when the prince is ready to pick his bride, a specific county is picked, and all of the girls of age go to a special school to prepare to meet the prince. Since the county Miri lives in is so impoverished and removed from the rest of the country, the girls have to go to the Princess Academy for a year.
Throughout the series, the girls learn more about their home, their places in the world, politics, friendship and family, as well as love.
This has been one of my favorite book series since I was maybe ten or eleven years old. I highly recommend this series, and it is the perfect book to curl up with on a winter’s night.
