Rating: 4.5 stars
Review:
Septimus, Jenna, and Beetle are all coming into their own. Beetle is the Chief Hermetic Scribe, Jenna is going to be Queen soon, but Septimus is dealing with the aftermath of the Dark Domaine. All that is left to do is getting rid of the Two-Faced Ring. This means the Alchemie Fyre has to be relit, which results in old secrets resurfacing and the Darke lurking right around the corner.
It’s over! I genuinely enjoyed this series. I’m going to miss the world of Septimus Heap and these amazing characters.

The whole Heap family was part of this book! Simon and Lucy got married and the forest Heaps came back to the Castle. While I loved seeing the whole family together, I wish there were scenes where we got to see them all together and talking. Simon also wasn’t really part of the book despite getting a new role. We did see Simon, Nicko, and Septimus protect Jenna and work together, which I loved, especially after the events of the previous books.
It was nice seeing Marcellus getting back to his Alchemie roots. Alchemie is an interesting aspect of the world that hasn’t been given enough notice. Marcellus finally got to know what happened to his Alchemie, which was nice, and we got to see him confront the person who shut down Alchemie.
I was super disappointed in Cerys. She finally left the Queen’s Room and was super judgmental and rude, primarily to the Heaps. She did make it clear how amazing the Heaps are, though.
We really got to see how much Marcia and Septimus love each other. One of my favorite scenes in this whole series took place in this book. It was when Marcia and Septimus found each other after they thought something bad had happened to the other.
While I really liked this book, in many ways it didn’t tie a lot of things up. Wolf Boy found out something very important about his life and it wasn’t discussed again. Spit Fyre was left in the Marram Marshes, and we didn’t see him again. Simon was barely seen throughout the book. In the summary for the book it said that Septimus had to choose between Magyk and Alchemie. I didn’t find this was too big of an issue.
A nice ending to a wonderful series. The story was intriguing and entertaining. I enjoyed learning more about the world and history. Since this was the final installment, I wanted a little more closure than I got. I loved this series, and I recommend this series for anybody looking for a clean fantasy story.
