Review:

Queen Etheldredda’s ghost has returned, and she has nothing but mischief in mind. She wants to get rid of Jenna so she can be Queen again. She also needs ExtraOrdinary Wizard Apprentice, Septimus Heap, out the way. Then, Septimus Heap is taken by Marcellus Pye back in time. Now, Jenna, Alther, Nicko, and Septimus have to figure out how to get Septimus back to the right Time and get rid of Etheldredda.
I recently put up a display of time travel books at my library, and if I had known this book had time travel, it would have gone up immediately. The time travel rules were slightly confusing, but the emotional impacts of time travel were beautifully done. There were also new characters introduced: Marcellus Pye and Snorri and Ullr. Snorri is a Northern Trader which has been referenced throughout the series, so it is exciting to get to know about the Northern Traders more.
Also, Alice Nettles! Alther has been talking about Alice Nettles throughout the series, as well, though this is the first book where she is actually present. What happened to her at the end was super shocking and sad; I actually gasped out loud!
Ullr is Snorri’s cat, that shapeshifts into a panther at night. Angie Sage writes such an interesting world, with interesting creatures. Spit Fyre was introduced in Flyte, and he has only gotten more rambunctious as the series progresses. I have a soft spot for pets (having four of my own), so the pets being such a big part of this book is a huge thing for me.
I wish there was more of the Heap family together, but it’s mostly just Jenna, Nicko, and Septimus.
I loved the time travel aspect to it, and how everybody responded to it. Angie Sage also writes characters that you can empathize with; I felt so bad for Septimus being stuck 500 years in the past. I also love the characters, pets, and the world present in this series. I recommend this to Harry Potter fans and anybody looking for a fun autumn read.
Physik is book three in the Septimus Heap series and as I have progressed through the series, I think you have to read the previous books to understand what is happening.
Happy reading!
