Top Ten Tuesday: How My Reading Habits Have Changed Overtime

The way I have read over the years has changed; here’s how!

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl. This week’s theme is How My Reading Habits Have Changed Over Time from Lydia at Lydia Schoch.

Here is my Top Ten:

No More Big Lists!

For a while I had this master list of all the books I needed to read. I would exclusively read these books, but I found that it didn’t leave room for what I wanted to read in the moment. Now I only plan it out a little bit in advance.

No More Tabs!

For a short time in middle school, I was putting tabs in my books to determine where I needed to reach by the end of the day. It ended up stressing me out and I couldn’t enjoy the book!

Timed Reading!

In the summer before seventh grade, I got a bookmark that can time how long you are reading. I find it really helpful to do this and I set a time limit each day and have realized the perfect amount of time I can usually read for. I have not stopped recording my time since then.

Cataloging My Books!

I’ve started keeping a yearly record of the books I’ve read, my rating, the genres, the age, and how long it took me to read. I enjoy printing this at the end of the year and looking at my favorite books and what genres I should read more of.

Varying Age Ranges!

When I was younger, I solely read middle readers. Then I read a slight mix of YA and middle reader. Then I solely read YA. Now, I am venturing back to middle readers, with a mix of YA, and some adult books.

More Graphic Novels!

For years I very rarely read graphic novels/manga/comics. I have been reading more of them recently, especially before bed.

More Non-Fiction!

I really love fiction, and struggle with non-fiction. Over the summer I read 5 non-fiction books, and I am determined to read more non-fiction books.

Reading More Than One Book at a Time!

I have my “main” book, which is the one I usually am reading and dedicating my energy to. However, I have started to have an additional book that I will read before bed or when I get bored after I finish my primary book.

Well, here is my Top Ten, or Top Eight.

How have your reading habits changed over the years?

The bookmark with the time recoding is fun. I’m curious how much time you spend reading each day.

I no longer read multiple books at a time. I find it confusing with fiction.

You have some really unique thoughts on this topic. Fun list!

      I love my bookmark!

For all of high school I was reading 2 hours every day. Since I started college, it has gone down, though I still try to reach 2 hours.

      Thank you!

I don’t think I’ve read non-fiction by choice, maybe I might like them if I look for a subject I’m interested in like Psychology. It’s great that you’re getting back into middle readers, I’ve always read a lot of middle-grades though I’m 26, I just love the cozy and whimsical feelings they give. It was fun reading about your habits :)
