Book Review: Head Over Heels

In Head Over Heels, Harriet has a new friend group but struggles with her controlling nature. Harriet is a relatable character, and her story is equal measures humorous and heartfelt.

Review:

Harriet Manners knows almost every fact there is. She knows that duck-billed platypuses don’t have stomachs, only one flag in the world features a building, and once fourteen squirrels were detained as spies. And, for the first time, Harriet knows exactly how her life should go. She has it ALL planned. So, when love is in the air, Harriet is committed to making things happen. If only everybody else would stick to the plan.

Harriet was very controlling this book. I can understand why a member of her new group was getting frustrated with it. I was kind of hoping for more conflict on this front. I love a good plan and when things are organized, but Harriet was super controlling!

I will say that while Harriet was being super controlling, she was also being typical Harriet. She didn’t just plan everything; she typed up and printed plans. She made bunting for a picnic! I have to admit I loved it.

I did love Harriet having friends. I love Nat and Toby, but it was exciting to see Harriet interacting with others and being more confident and assured of herself.

Rin also came back! I loved Rin in the second book, and I loved her in this book. She maybe wasn’t as outgoing in this book because she was adapting to England, but she was still super adorable and fun. I especially liked how she coordinated outfits with cats!

Harriet was able to travel to India and was there during Holi. It is always fun when Harriet travels because it is often humorous and fun, but also you learn a lot of new and interesting facts about the places Harriet goes.

There is also some bonding with Tabby. It is always fun seeing Harriet being a big sister, and Tabby is starting to come into her own.

Bunty also came back. She wasn’t in the book too much, and Annabel was acting a little odd. I am interested to see how this continues in the next book.

Wilbur is back! I love how flamboyant Wilbur is and I missed him. It was lovely having him back, and while he goes through his own struggles this book, his relationship with Harriet is sweet. I really loved how Harriet tried to help him.

I will say that will the summary says that there is love in the air. The love does not pertain to Harriet. Harriet actually acts as a matchmaker (not very successfully, I might add). There is a little romance at the end that pertains to Harriet though.

Head Over Heels was a friendship guided story, with old characters making an entrance, and Harriet learning what it means to be a friend!
