It’s another Top Ten Tuesday! Top Ten Tuesday is run by Jana over at That Artsy Reader Girl and this week’s them is My Unpopular Bookish Opinions.
I don’t think I have super strong opinions one way or another, but here are some of the opinions I do have.
Here’s my Top Ten:
Spine Cracking
I don’t care if my books look like they’ve been read. I don’t purposely go around cracking my book spines, but I can’t see the book very well without doing that and I buy my books to read them, not so they can sit collecting dust. I also love a good lived in look.
Mystery, Horror, and Thriller Genres
So many people like mysteries, horror, and thrillers. I am not one of those people. I was into true crime for a while, but it caused extreme anxiety, which I am still dealing with, so I have stopped watching it and also avoided books falling into the mystery, thriller, and horror genres, for the most part. Even before I switched to more positive genres, I really didn’t enjoy these genres. There were some good ones, but my favorite parts of the books were the relationships.
Judge a Book by Its Cover
There are some books I will probably never read, and I know I won’t like them based on their cover. For instance, the books with shirtless men. That is probably not for me, so I will steer clear. There is nothing wrong with judging a book by its cover, and I think judgement has gotten a bad rap. I have judged a book by its cover in a positive way, and it became one of my favorite books.
Cozy Books
I have given a number of cozy books a shot, and I don’t like them. I love emotional, dramatic scenes, and I find cozy books lacking. Cozy books are boring to me, but I won’t give up.
You Don’t Have to Read a Summary
There are many times when I grab a book based on its good reviews, its cover, or that it is by an author I have read before. I research every book before I read it, but I don’t often go into a book knowing what it’s about because I don’t read the summaries.
Spoilers are Okay
I love spoilers. Many don’t which is okay, but if you ever need to spoil something you can come to me. I cannot handle surprises, so I often read the end or Google, because I need to know right away. I will say that not everything is spoiled when I do this; I may know the end result, but I don’t know every little thing that led us there.
Rainbow Bookshelves
I find it horrible that people organize their books in rainbow order. I have volunteered at a library for years and my primary duty is shelving, so I have gotten a little fixated on books being organized by age and then alphabetized. I have had my books organized by favorites, but I cannot get behind rainbow bookshelves. There is just no order, and series are separated- which is the worst part.
Annotating
I really dislike it when people write in their books. Of course, it is their book, but I would never write in one of my books. I don’t mind when people tab their books. I usually keep a sticky note on the cover and write down pages that have my favorite passages. But I will never write in a book!
Do you agree with any of these? Disagree? What are your strong book opinions?
