This month’s theme is graphic novels. So far I have discussed Ghosts and Smile, which you can find here and here.
This week’s post is about The Remarried Empress, which is one of the more recent graphic novels I have read and one of my favorites.
It has political drama and I love the entire storyline. I have to be honest, I only have access to the first five books in the series and I have only read the first three.
The first three books dealt with some heavy things but were not too dark. The fourth book got dark and heavy, and I stopped reading it because it wasn’t what I was looking for at the time. I hope to finish the series one day though.
This was originally a Webtoon as well, which I think is really cool and I have been seeing more and more WebToons turned into books.
I loved the characters in this book. I think the main character, Navier, is slightly stoic, but I love her character so much. I have also read many books about royals having mistresses and haven’t felt much one way or another. This book changed it. I was furious for Navier based on her circumstances. I have strong feelings against her husband.
The mistress, Rashta, totally reminds me of Noreen from the first season of Sweet Magnolias. If you have seen the show, you’ll know what I am talking about. Noreen, though, gets better after the first season, while Rashta does not.
Navier gets a love interest, and I absolutely adore him. I haven’t reached the end of their love story, but I have high hopes.
I highly recommend this series! I absolutely love it and can return to it year after year! And the art is absolutely gorgeous!

Summary:
“I ACCEPT THIS DIVORCE… AND REQUEST AN APPROVAL OF MY REMARRIAGE.” Empress Navier and Emperor Sovieshu: a match made in heaven, they were the two pillars of the land whom everyone believed would stand by each other through thick and thin…until a chance encounter with a beautiful girl in the forest leaves the emperor smitten! Though hurt by the betrayal, Navier’s not one to waste time wallowing in despair. And when Sovieshu requests a divorce, she has but one condition in return—permission to remarry the man of her choosing!
