Library Lover’s Month

One of the best parts of being a book lover is going to the library! In this post I share one of my favorite books that takes place at the library!

This is going to be a quick post, but it is about something I love: the library!

I have been a long-term library volunteer and absolutely love it. It is my goal to one day work in a library, but we will have to see.

I know this is coming a little late in the month, but I couldn’t not do something to celebrate.

I am going to share one of my absolute favorite books that is about a library.

The Lost Library by Rebecca Stead and Wendy Mass is so amazing. It has three perspectives, fifth-grader Evan, cat Mortimer, and ghost Al.

This town is without a library and one day a little free library appears. This becomes quite popular, and Evan learns there used to be a library, but something tragic happened. His mission is to find out what happened and why nobody talks about the old library. Evan, Al, and Mortimer’s stories collide in a wonderful and beautiful way.

Despite knowing how much a community needs a library, this book really pointed it out and it truly showed how people need libraries.

Happy Library Lover’s month!

If you choose to read this book, I hope you love it!

And, most important, don’t forget to visit your library!

Summary:

A little free library guarded by a cat and a boy who takes on the mystery it keeps. When a mysterious little free library (guarded by a large orange cat) appears overnight in the small town of Martinville, eleven-year-old Evan plucks two weathered books from its shelves, never suspecting that his life is about to change. Evan and his best friend Rafe quickly discover a link between one of the old books and a long-ago event that none of the grown-ups want to talk about. The two boys start asking questions whose answers will transform not only their own futures, but the town itself. Told in turn by a ghost librarian named Al, an aging (but beautiful) cat named Mortimer, and Evan himself, The Lost Library is a timeless story from award-winning authors Rebecca Stead and Wendy Mass. It’s about owning your truth, choosing the life you want, and the power of a good book (and, of course, the librarian who gave it to you).
