Saturday Spotlight: Sci-Fi Book #2- The 5th Wave

5th Wave is an amazing sci-fi series that explores human survival and resilience.

This month’s Saturday Spotlight theme is Sci-fi. These is week two and the book of the week is The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey.

The first book I discussed was Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. You can find that post here.

The 5th Wave is a trilogy that follows Cassie during the apocalypse. There have four waves of the apocalypse so far and the few survivor’s lefts are waiting for the 5th wave.

I read this two or three years ago and it has stuck with me. The entire series is good, and the storyline is amazing. It has a depth to it that really hits you.

One of my favorite parts of this series is how it addresses being solider. To this day I often think about how this series accomplishes that discussion. I enjoy military-type books and so this really appealed to me.

The invasion is caused by aliens and throughout the series they cause a lot of issues. One of the biggest problems is that people suspect that some of them have been implanted into society, which is always a fun twist to a story.

This is a really good sci-fi trilogy that I highly recommend. It’s an engaging, emotional read that takes you on a rollercoaster adventure.

Summary:

After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one. Now, it’s the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth’s last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie’s only hope for rescuing her brother—or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.
