Book Review: North Pole High

I found “North Pole High” too childish and clichéd and ultimately decided to abandon it.

Review:

I very, very rarely choose to not finish a book. This is one of the few times I have chosen to do this.

One of the biggest reasons was I have a lot of other books I need to read, and I just wasn’t able to get into this one. Maybe next year I’ll give this book another try when I have some more time.

The second thing was the names and phrases used throughout the portion of the book I read. The main characters name was CandyCane, and everything she owned was candy cane patterned. Speaking from experience, at a certain age you leave behind things that you are named after. A polar bear’s name was Mr. Polar Bear. A chef’s name was Chefy. Other names included Tinsel, Snowflake, Silentnight, Delicious, and more. These names are more reminisint of middle reader books than a young adult book.

Phrases like lords-a-leaping were also irritating. As well as the significant addiction to sugar.

All of these cliches should be in a younger book, though I have read in other reviews that there is some suggestive language.

Overall, the story wasn’t horrible it just seemed too young for the type of book I thought I was reading. It was also super cliched making it seem childish. I may give this another try next year, but I don’t have time to read a book I am only marginally interested in this year.
