Happy National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo)! As someone who is going to school for writing this month is pretty exciting. Unfortunately I am not participating this year, but hopefully next year I’ll have the time.

I have read a few writing books and my absolute favorite is Dear, Ally by Ally Carter. She’s very honest and forthcoming with information pertaining not only to writing but publishing as well.
She has chapters for planning your book, developing characters and plot, world building, writing a series, editing your book, beating writers block, and publishing.
Ally Carter writes honestly with her usual charm. There is also information from other authors including Maggie Stiefvater, David Leviathan, Soman Chainani, Marie Lu, Cassandra Clare, Holly Black, Gordan Korman, Jennifer Lyn Barnes, and more! All of the information presented was so helpful and to see the wide variety of writing styles was awesome.
When I first started reading this book I was on vacation, and I brought a notebook for all of the information. I would sit there and read, then take notes for almost every page I read! My notebook has pages of notes from information presented in her book! This book was also the book that got me into Ally Carter, and now she is one of my favorite authors!
If you are looking for more information on writing, I highly recommend Dear, Ally by Ally Carter!
