Saturday Spotlight: Young Readers Week

National Young Readers Week is approaching; here are some recommendations!

If you’re looking for a middle reader series to read or looking for a book for a younger reader here are some of my favorites!

In celebration of Young Readers Week, I’ve decided to share some amazing middle reader books. The first three books mentioned are recommendations from my younger sister, who is venturing into the middle reader genre more.

One and Only Ivan by Christina Applegate

“I think that Christina Applegate did a very good job of writing this series and explaining what is happening for a vivid reading experience,” says my sister about her favorite book series.

Dragon Masters by Tracy West

It is well written, as well as intriguing. “There are cliffhangers that make you want to keep reading it,” says my sister. Tracy West does a good job writing interesting characters and has an amazing world.

Geronimo Stilton

The stories are fun and engaging, with interesting illustrations and fun characters. There are also so many adventures to choose from.

The Wingfeather Saga by Andrew Peterson

This series is absolutely amazing! It has very strong family themes, instead of romance. It follows three siblings through a fantastical world as they try to defeat the darkness that has taken over their world.

The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer

The Land of Stories was the book series that got me into reading. It follows twins, Alex and Connor, as they find another world where the fairytales are real. If you love this series, I don’t necessarily recommend the Tale of Magic series, which is supposed to be a prequel, because it doesn’t fit in with the main series. I highly recommend the Land of Stories, though.

The Unwanteds by Lisa McMann

The Unwanteds is a book for slightly older readers, probably 12 or 13, but it is still really good. This book also features twins, as well as found family.

The School of Good and Evil by Soman Chainani

This series follows best friends Agatha and Sophie when they are kidnapped into a fairy-tale world. This book introduced me to the Arthur legends and explores many different fairytales.

Septimus Heap by Angie Sage

I haven’t finished this series yet, but so far it is really good. It has magic, dragons, royalty, and a really strong family/friends driven story. My reviews for the first three books can be found here:

Princess Academy by Shannon Hale

The Princess Academy is a cute trilogy. It has a head-strong, bookish female protagonist. The main characters are mountain people, which have a harder life and are looked down upon, until some of the girls get educated and help reform the country.

The Tea Dragon Society by Kay O’Neill

This is the only graphic novel series I have on my list. This is brightly drawn book, that is very cozy. The dragons are absolutely adorable, too!
