Happy Day of the Dead!

Celebrate Day of the Dead with a movie!

November 1st and 2nd is Day of the Dead, or Dia de Los Muertos.

This holiday is a Mexican holiday that celebrates the lives of friends and family that have passed. Sugar skulls, ofrendas, and marigolds are commonly seen for this holiday. During this holiday the spirits of the deceased return for a short time to visit their family.

I was trying to find books to read for this holiday, but I was struggling to find them. Therefore, one of the ways I acknowledge Day of the Dead is by watching movies!

A common movie to watch is Coco from Disney. While I enjoy this movie, one of my favorite movies is The Book of Life.

This movie has interesting animation, as well as amazing music. There is a love triangle, but the relationships are really well done. It has gods that are common in that culture, who also have a very cute relationship and banter. This is told like a story, with asides happening in the future, which is a really neat perspective.

This movie features Diego Luna, Channing Tatum, and Zoe Saldana. It was released in 2014 and is able to stream on Disney+.

One of my favorite quotes is from this movie. Here it is: “The world keeps spinning, and the tales keep turning, and people come and people go, but they’re never forgotten. And the one truth we know, it held true one more time…That love, true love, the really, really good kind of love never dies.”

Have a happy Day of the Dead!

What do you do to celebrate this holiday?
